pros
good beer selection
good wine selection
good food selection
good music
good art
cons
service can be slow; sometimes the bartenders are pulling the old "have a good time hanging out with my friends who came to visit me while i work and i'll see if i can squeeze a few customers in once in a while" trick
questionably priced beer/wine/food
lack of drink specials (correct if i'm wrong; i'd be happy to see they've changed this)
too hot!!! it was winter, and i was inside, jacket off, so in t-shirt and jeans (several times) and sweating. a few times it started to feel a little better, quite relieving, and multiple times i saw one of the waitresses go over and crank the heat again. YO HIPSTERS: STOP BEING WAIFISH.
the good music i spoke of above has a habit of creeping up in volume through the night so that by 11:00 2 people can't have a conversation without feeling each other's breath. you know, because you have to be <1 inch away to hear each other
it's a cool enough place, but i am hesitant to go out of my way to hit it up. lucky 7 is a couple blocks away, the PATH is a hop skip and a jump...[/list]

I just saw that they're having a
Wine and Chocolate Pairing at LITM
tomorrow, Feb 10, 2009 from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.
That sounds great, but you may be 90 by the time you actually get your Wine and Chocolate.

I know this will sound dumb but the bathroom is really nice; well-appointed and instant hot hot water from the tap; clean, and lots of paper towels pyramided next to the sink.
Too bad it's the only bathroom there. On weekends the line stretches into the back. It can be pretty chaotic, especially when people are taking their time blowing lines in there.
Or is there another bathroom now?

Wine list is a little limited; beer list is extensive and makes up for it. Kudos for having a very good Nero D'Avola available which I enjoyably drank with a bunch of food that it probably isn't designed for- to wit:
Oysters Taranto were quite good, fresh, and the smoked salmon wasn't over-powering (as it can be). I really liked these.
Cheese ravioli with lamb ragu was nice. I admit I think it would have been better on a plate rather than a bowl but then I suppose it wouldn't have been served with a ragu (and also, having not really eaten all day I was a bit hypoglycemic and trying to cut it with my fork).

A small group of us went tonight and it was great. Amazing drink selection and a nice menu too. Great music and a really interesting selection of art on exhibit. The staff was super friendly and the owner is really nice too.
I cannot believe it took me over 2 years to actually try it out. Will definitely go back.

They have this sandwich it's grilled mozzarella and anchioves. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
I'm serious I like anchioves, on pizza too.
And I did not know this previously but they have a HUGE selection of beers, imported and domestic microbrews. It is a little shee-shee pretentious but...I don't know...what the hell.....you know?

It there such a thing as heavy on the Manchesterisms?
Yes definitely. I have no desire to listen to Liam Gallagher shake his unibrow or Morrisey waffle on about flowers and hamburgers while I am eating. Also Joy Division, New Order, The Inspiral Carpets, The Happy Mondays, The Stone Roses and Simply Fucking Red can all kiss my Manchester-hating ass too.
I'll forgive you if you play a few Buzzcocks songs though.......

Like I said, I can't believe I put off going there for three years.
Actually, I think the menu is relatively new since they installed the full kitchen post-restaurant row ordinance. Before that they only had very light appetizers.
I have enjoyed the food and bar there too, even though it does feel sort of like the inside of a spaceship.

Being a parent and a working stiff, I've only managed to go to LITM on weekends recently, when it is a tad packed and the music is a bit too loud. We arranged a birthday party for my wife at LITM on a Saturday afternoon (before opening time, which is 3:00, I think) and most everyone enjoyed it, even our kids.
As said, great bottled beer selection, and the food is tasty, if the portions are a bit small. If I could go weekedays, I'd go more often. Great space, ambiance, location. I only wish there were more places like this in JC.

Fang and I went there the other night and it was really great. I'm dissappointed that we avoided it for so long.
They had a very decent beer and wine list (better than Merchant's or Majestic's, though of course it was all bottles), I had Rogue's Dead Guy Ale, which I absolutely love and previously had to go across the Hudson to drink.
For apps we had the fried rice balls, which were delicious. Fang opted for the ravioli, which was flavorful and cooked perfectly, and I had a chicken-fried style strip steak that was also very, very good (if possibly not worth the 16 bucks they charged for it). The service was impeccable, though of course we were just about the only people there, since it was a Tuesday (hmm, maybe it was Wednesday. . . too much Dead Guy).
The music, too, was very good, though a little heavy on the Manchesterisms. Some b-side type Smiths, some Stone Roses, etc. Still, a welcome change from the usual crap they play in bars.
All in all, it was a great night, and at two entrees, one appetizer, and three beers for fifty bucks, not especially expensive. Like I said, I can't believe I put off going there for three years.

Good to know...the music sounds like it has taken a turn for the better. Every time I'd go in there in the old days they would be playing that type of faceless, generic electronic wallpaper music that places use when they want the place to feel "upscale" and "urban"

It's shee-shee a la Majestic, but let's face it...those two spots (on certain nights) have some of the best music in the city. Funky Filthy Old School Rhythms.

Is their food any good? I haven't been to LITM in years - is it still in full hipster-mania effect, or has it gotten any more down to earth?
