Sports, Recreation & Hobbies / Help me find 2 postcards?
« on: 08-25-2012, 11:08am »
Hi everyone,

I have a little bit of a weird request.  I'm looking for two postcards:  1 of the Colgate Clock in Jersey City and 1 of the Erie Lackawanna terminal in Hoboken as seen from the Hudson River.  I've been keeping an eye on ebay, but haven't really seen any I love.  (I've seen a few ok ones of Hoboken, really none of the Colgate clock.)
Please let me know if you have any ideas of anywhere else I should look, or if you have to one to give me/ lend me/ sell me.

Thanks so much!

Education / French Lessons
« on: 02-18-2012, 08:33am »
Hi everyone!  Or perhaps I should say Bonjour!
I was wondering if anyone knows of any place in Jersey City (preferably downtown) that offers beginner French lessons?
I have heard good things about the French Alliance on 59th St. in Manhattan but I thought if I could find something in JC it would be more convenient.
Thanks!

General / Goodwill type store?
« on: 01-31-2010, 02:14pm »
My mother is in FL, and they have a lot of great Goodwill type stores around.  (The best one, in my opinion, is the Habitat for Humanity store, I think it's called Re-Store or something like that.)  Anyway, I was looking for a piece of furniture, and my mother mentioned that I should go to our Goodwill store here.  I told her I didn't think we had one, and she said I was crazy, there has to be one.  Sure enough, a search yielded a Salvation Army store on Erie & 14th.   Mom is always right.

I got the piece of furniture I needed, but I'm still wondering about thrift stores here - Have you ever shopped at the Salvation Army store?   Is it worth checking out?  Are there other similar stores in our area that might be better?

Dining / I've Never Owned a Food Processor!
« on: 01-05-2010, 09:43pm »
But I've wanted one.  And I'm thinking about taking the plunge.

I'm looking for one on the affordable side (in case I never use it, I won't have invested too much), and tiny apartment friendly (not a lot of counter space or pantry space), but not so tiny that it won't do the job.

Suggestions?  Recommendations?  Where to shop?

Thanks!

News / NJ Teacher Accused of Having Sex with Student
« on: 12-04-2008, 08:11pm »
Have you or your son had sex with this woman?  Innocent until proven guilty and all, but it seems so much more innocuous when it's a woman teacher and a male student, especially high school, right?

From 1010wins.com  (http://www.1010wins.com/NJ-Teacher-Accused-of-Having-Sex-with-Student/3434205):
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP)  -- Middlesex County authorities have accused a female Old Bridge High School drama teacher of having sex with a male student.

Lisa Glide lives in Howell and is charged with second-degree sexual assault and child endangerment.

The 35-year-old has taught at the school since 2004. She has also been employed by the Marlboro and Jersey City school districts.

The prosecutor's office says the investigation revealed that Glide began engaging in a sexual relationship with the student in February.

Movies & Television / "As Seen on TV" Products
« on: 08-20-2008, 08:50pm »
Have you tried any?  Were they good?  Worth it?

I've stayed home sick a lot lately and watched a lot of vicodin-enhanced television.  And seen a lot of commercials.

The ones that looked the best to me were:

 Aqua Globes
(as if watering plants is really taking up a ton of my important time.)

https://www.asseenontv.com/prod-pages/aqu_glbs_ontv.html?gid=

Pancake Puffs (but to be honest, I think the vicodin kind of just gives me the munchies.)

http://www.asseenontv.com/prod-pages/pnckpf402.html?gid=

and Pedi Paws
http://www.asseenontv.com/prod-pages/pedipw_ontv.html?gid=

(Not to be confused with the Pedi Egg, which is kinda weird.)
http://www.asseenontv.com/prod-pages/pdegg_ontv.html?gid=

And, strangely, Sham WOW.  (It took me a while to think up that name, you should've read the description of the commercial I wrote before I thought of the name Sham Wow...)  Even though I KNOW I'd never use it.
http://www.shamwow.com/

So, has anyone ever ordered any of these (or any other As Seen on TV products)?

Thanks for indulging my eccentricities.   And the fact that I'm not good at making links for some reason.

For Sale / For Sale: Wooden Desk w/ Closing Doors
« on: 08-10-2008, 07:43pm »
For Sale:  Wooden Desk With Closing Doors

Wooden Desk - Used
Doors and other parts appear to be solid wood
Some parts (shelves) are laminate or particle board, but strong enough to hold a large computer monitor.

(What you see on the top of the picture is the extra shelf which I had removed to move the desk.  The top of the unit is actually straight, see photo below.)

2 pull out shelves for keyboard or other items plus one top shelf, adjustable height.

Perfect for making a small home office in a bedroom or apartment - you can close the doors and hide your work away at the end of the day.  Also great for students.

AS IS - Wood has some small pen marks, and one small area (1-2 inches) where some wood has chipped away.

Also the interiors of the doors have scratches where the shelves were pulled opened while the doors weren't wide open.

The back section has holes for cords/wires, not very obvious when you have the desk full with computer and other items.

Only one for sale now.  If you are interested in having a second as a set, let me know, I may be able to part with the other one.

$75.  Shop around - these desks cost a lot more new.

You are responsible for hauling, including getting it down a flight of stairs.  Heavy - truck needed.
Downtown Jersey City.

General / Soup Swap
« on: 07-06-2007, 09:05pm »
No, it's not Soup Swap season yet... But there is a Soup Swap announcement:

The people who run the National Soup Swap blog (soupswap.com) sent me an email that was a pre-call for recipes for a Soup Swap Cookbook they're going to put together. The cookbook will specifically feature soups that can be cooked in big batches for the purposes of swapping.

Quote
We will likely make the official call for submissions in a couple weeks with our hope to get everyone's first-draft submissions in September.

They'll also be looking for kitchen testers ( ;D ) and interesting soup stories (a la "the telling of the soup").

So, I just wanted to give everyone the heads up. There are a few of you who have recipes I'd love to see in the book! So, dig out your soup recipes (or write them down if you never did), and when we get the official word, you'll be ready!
