Sorry.  No negligence here.  Been there, done that.

Bergen-Lafayette / Another drive by reevaluation?
« on: 06-27-2017, 06:25pm »
Today I received a blue card from Appraisal Systems Inc. saying they have "made a second visit to your property and found no one home" so they randomly decided I have 3.5 bathrooms, baseboard heat and a finished basement.  They are only off by 2.5 bathrooms, the baseboard heat and one unfinished basement.  Gee, do they suppose anyone WORKS so they can pay their unabated taxes?  Annoyed phone message to their voicemail ensued.  This is the first time I've heard from these guys.  Apparently they have given the same big overestimates to a few of my neighbors and on the next block over as well.   Buggers. Be warned people, it's another drive by reevaluation in the making. >:(

Thanks for the picture of the eagle.   I thought I saw one fly over NJCU while I was at lunch one day and just thought I was nuts since there are no eagles in Jersey City....or so i thought! Now if someone can post a picture of a vulture that I think I've seen I will really feel much better :o

Thanks Pinky.  Some of my neighbors think our little guest may belong to the people who own the house across from us.  My husband says he sees the husband fairly often so hopefully I can check with them tomorrow.  Otherwise, I'm going to have to make the calls.  I'm hoping for a happy reunion. :-)

Hello,
If anyone in the Storms Ave. area is looking for their dog, I found one without a collar, alone, shivering outside this afternoon.  It doesn't look familiar.  There were no people in sight so I have it in my house. Its very friendly and looks well cared for.  Please post here or call 201-388-1189 if you are looking for your dog.  Please leave a description. Thanks!

I saw a few Hooded Mergansers back in December in the pond on the west side of Lincoln Park, and when it froze over they were over in the Hackensack river.  Maybe they are over on the other side of the island.  I didn't see them today. I didn't see any of the Herons either, but the water was quite high.  Usually they are standing on the edges of the island.

Two male Buffleheads swimming in the Hackensack this morning when it was nice and foggy out.

An impressive display of ingenuity, MCA.  Sadly I am too uncoordinated to handle a phonecam+binoculars, do a balancing act and press the shutter all at the same time and so I must make do with a single piece of equipment.    :D

Thanks Sue!  Sadly, I was doing an unfortunate balancing act between a Kibble Vault and my washer and trying to focus through the mini blinds in my kitchen before our feathered friend flew off, hence, no tail for this guy.   I probably do have some pictures of full bodies of the other two from last year though.  The other 2 are pretty small, dove sized.  This one looked a little bigger and the head looked a little more square and very few white spots on the back.  Of course I was trying not to fall thru the top of my washer so I could be less than accurate about that.    :D

This little hawk came for a visit to my backyard around 11:00 am.  Not one of my usual 2 Sharpies,  the pattern on the back is different.  I think it may be a small Coopers Hawk.  :)

An adult Black Crowned Night Heron and a juvenile also on the little island across from Lincoln Park.  There were many of these down there a few weeks ago in December.  They all hang out together near the bottom of the trees and plants slightly above the water.

Nice Blue Heron on the little island in the Hackensack at Lincoln Park West in December.  They seem to stay for the winter. :)

I'm so glad!  My husband saw him running on Summit on Sunday but he was driving in opposite direction.  Does anyone know where he turned up?  I know his family is so happy right now!  ;D

18
Running neck and neck with the ill fated pool project is Bayview Park on Garfield Avenue.  Supposedly its revamp was to be completed last June.  As far as I know, its not done either.   >:(    Ward (Fugget about it) F.   Ya gotta love it.

19
I have a yard.  I have plants.    I can raise chickens and bees!  Can I go too?  But I want whoever is paying for their tickets and hotel to pay for my ticket and hotel too.  Oh.  That would be the taxpayers right?  >:D  What a load (of compost.)

Our Sunday and Wednesday night garbage finally got picked by Friday!   I am still hoarding my recycling items, since I didn't want to pile them on with the garbage.  Didn't want to push my luck.   ;D

21
Indeed.  No pick up at all on our street either.  Now we have Sunday night's garbage and Wednesday night's garbage in interesting clusters on top of somewhat sullied snow drifts.   ::)  Tonight is supposedly recycling night.  I've run out of space to hoard my garbage.  :'(

22
Did they mean Sunday night garbage pick up is scheduled now for Monday night, which has now turned into Tuesday or do we just hold out for Wednesday night?  Storms Avenue's garbage is still there.  Of course the plow didn't come down until Monday night at 7:00, when it got stuck and had to back out of the street.  I'm not sure if it ever returned.  Sigh.  :-\  Well, at least its cold out so the garbage won't stink.  ;D

Shelly's prices have been too upscale for me for years at their present location on scenic Bergen Ave.  I guess they'll scale new price heights now with couches and a coffee bar sprucing up the joint.    :D  The thrilling anticipation of this combination of couches and hot beverages is almost too much for me to endure. ::)

My husband and I drove past the pool yesterday.  Actually we stopped and got out of the car and peered through the gates because there is WATER in both the kiddie pool and the large pool.  We thought we were seeing things.  I mean water as if people would go swimming right now, not puddles of rain water.  Perhaps Jersey City has inside info that we will be experiencing another scorching heat wave - AT THE END OF OCTOBER!   Did we miss something here?  Did the pool open for a week and we missed it? :o   Is this some kind of test for leaks???

Whatever you do, don't bring any cameras if your carry a purse or some kind of bag.  I always carry a mini dv/camera in my purse (everyday), went sailing thru the checkpoint/X-ray machine in the morning.  After lunch, the officer wanted to know what "electronics" I had.  netbook, cell phone (with a camera in it!) and mini dv.  I was told I couldn't bring a camera into the courthouse, to maybe leave it across the street at the camera shop.  I don't know those folks in the camera shop!

Naturally, not wanting to be disrespectful, I didn't point out that practically everyone in the building had a cell phone WITH A CAMERA IN IT.

I ditched said camera several blocks away with a co-worker.  What a pain in the tush. ::)
