Komegashi has served Jersey City faithfully for 15 years at its two-level location at the corner of Montgomery and Warren Streets. In recent years, the quality has suffered a little, but it is still one of the better Japanese restaurants in the city. Its Newport sister, Komegashi too, offers a more upscale atmosphere, water views and a Japanese fusion menu.

Attention design geeks and starchitect whores! This is your thread to talk about great and not-so-great buildings (both new and old) in Jersey City and beyond, and all the stuff that goes inside.

Love the Powerhouse but hate the Trump Plaza Jersey City next door? Got a gripe against your neighbor's blue aluminum siding and white vinyl windows on her historic brownstone? Want to brag about the Saarinen table you found for cheap at the junk shop on Grand Street? Need advice about buying a rug? Post here!

News / Enforcing underage drinking laws
« on: 05-10-2007, 10:15pm »
Article from today's Jersey Journal. Looks like Fulop's plan passed. Here's hoping for a quieter summer.

Underage drinkers beware: You may lose your license

As a tool to clamp down on underage drinking parties on private property, the Jersey City City Council last night adopted a measure to allow the courts to fine underage drinkers and suspend their driving privileges.

Those under 21 found drinking would be fined $250 for a first offense and $350 for subsequent offenses.

In addition, the court is given the right to suspend driving privelages
(sic) for six months.

Sponsored by Ward E Councilman Steve Fulop, the ordinance creates exceptions for people consuming or possessing alcohol in connection with a religious observance or in the presence and with the permission of a parent or guardian.

With Ward F Councilwoman Viola Richardson absent, the measure passed 6-0-2, with City Council President Mariano Vega and at-large Councilman Peter Brennan abstaining. Vega said he considered the ordinance an intrusion on private property.
