I like the look and functionality so far, especially PATHAlerts, JC (as opposed to Newark) weather and the editing tools in the Post Reply box (by the way, how do I change fonts?).

The homepage does look a bit busy with the different boxes, Google ads and whatnot. Here are my suggestions for that page that I hope will improve both form and function:

  • The left column (let's call it the navigation/orientation area) should have the User box on top, with the WiredJC Stats and Shortcuts boxes directly below. The Shoutbox should be here too (hard habit to break!).
  • The middle column (the main text content) should have the Recent Posts on top, with the Jersey Journal and PATHAlert newsfeeds directly below, maybe side by side. Also, possibly one or more Gallery photos.
  • The right column (the information area) should have the Calendar and JC Weather, and possibly one Gallery photo (text not needed, IMO).
  • Please, please get rid of (1) the cheesy horizontal bar of Google ads below the Recent Posts (if you need an Google Ads box, couldn't you put it at the bottom of the right column?) and (2) the Google Search box (doesn't everyone have a search box built in to their browser at this point? And besides, there's already a site search box at top right).
  • Finally, the Shoutbox Popup can't be narrower than 7" on my monitor without my having to scroll horizontally. Any chance you can reduce that width to about 33.5"?

Thank you. I have now completed my bitching.

I'm glad to see MCC getting the love here. I think whether one finds the menu boring or comforting is completely subjective. There is, in fact, room for more specials and seasonal dishes (the financial aspects of expanding the menu being a whole other topic); there is also the comfort in knowing that you can always get the best mussels, crepes and cafe au lait in JC. I happen to love the menu as is, but don't go as often as I'd like because my regular dining companions find the menu a bit repetitive. C'est la vie.

It looks like I'm late to the party. It figures this site would launch the week I'm out of town and actually working. All the same, it's my privilege to extend a laurel and hearty handshake to our new...administrators of this here site. Congratulations and thanks to GLX, missa and NON for your efforts, and I look forward to returning to my normal schedule of unceasing posting and shouting when I get back to JC.

Now if only I can figure out how to transfer the glossary thread over here...

PS: what's the wiredjc equivalent of 'listers'? Wiredsters?
