NOT Jersey City is his off-topic forum. This really goes beyond anything that anybody can 'fix' by making suggestions such as this. The problem is not the format of the website, or the design of the website. The problem, ultimately, is the nature of the Webmaster role on JCList being occupied by only one individual. More specifically, the problem is Dan Falcon.

I don't see how deleting a plea for humanitarian aid with regard to a natural disaster has anything to do with a "technical/site design issue."

I think this is really a technical/site design issue.

As it is now, Falcon feels as if he has to weed out boring and off-topic posts, not just ad spam and posts that are illegal, dangerous, outrageously offensive, etc.

The ideal would be to have a user post rating system and let users screen for posts according to the ratings, and/or to let people "killfile" users whose posts they don't want to see.

That way, Falcon could focus on moderating out the posts that are really problem posts and let his users screen out the irritating posts and the posts that disrupt conversation.

I still enjoy jclist from afar and read it almost everyday.
I definitely enjoy the whole quirky ron paul thing and appreciate what dan had to say about his support for paul earlier this week in the vaJJ.

but the editing of that thread seems to stifle discourse
and editing in general on the site is very arbitrary and inconsistent.

there also seems to be quite a bit of sock puppetry going on over there...........

as for the rodney king sentiment, i love when judgment is passed not on the party who is clearly a few bricks shy, but on the person who was on the receiving end of said insanity, for bringing the subject up publicly.

if folks are free to post on whatever forums they like (until they get banned at least), then why aren't folks also free to express their negative experiences, whether they be with online shopping, or parking enforcement, or other websites?

i get taking the high road. but i get personal choice and expression more.

Indeed there is. Point taken, however: I must state that I think the likes of fatassXXXX (and others) have mentioned us in threads in a derogatory manner at least 20X as much as the reverse is true here. Indeed, he has created threads with no other purpose BUT to attempt to ridicule this site and all those who choose to post here. Those posts, incidentally, were not deleted. Additionally, he instituted a rule that WiredJC.com could not be mentioned by name on JCList.com. As the last sentence (and indeed, the title of this very thread) indicate, we have not done likewise. I think the source of most of the aggression can be traced fairly accurately in one direction.

I am almost certain that the only threads on this site that directly reference JCList are the threads by people who have been banned there.

Additionally, as JCPeace has alluded to, there is a definite bias apparent there, which we are free to discuss. Go ahead. Post something racist over there. I bet it is not removed. I am not stating in any way that Dan Falcon is a racist, bit I am stating that he is far more liberal with regard to allowing blatant hate speech then he is with speech about the Mets, or profanity, or photographs of events and/or locations in Jersey City, NJ which he decides, on a whim, are not relevant on a site about Jersey City, NJ.
