One time, I hired a monkey to take notes for me in class. I would just sit back with my mind completely blank while the monkey scribbled on little pieces of paper. At the end of the week, the teacher said, "Class, I want you to write a paper using your notes." So I wrote a paper that said, "Hello! My name is Bingo! I like to climb on things! Can I have a banana? Eek, eek!"

i just wanted to bump this thread and say that Tara runs a great service and was extremely helpful to me during last week.

I had to have some car repairs done....but the repairs  were extensive and my car was still in the garage when I had to leave for my ski trip to Colorado.

With very limited cell service up in the Rockies, I was able to contact Tara and she agreed to pick up the car for me and make sure that it was parked legally until I returned.

Tara returned my keys to me last night under combat conditions...this chick is a warrior princess!!

A big thumb's up for Keep Your Weekend!  I realized I needed help when I had movers coming and simultaneously had to be in a client meeting.  So I called Tara and she came to the house, met with the movers, and handled everything in my absence.

Also Tara reminded me that I should get no parking signs for the moving van.  In advance of moving day, she went and got the signs (which also requires buying a money order for the parking authority), and then she put them up in front of my house, all while I was away at work.

Thanks.  I definitely will be using KYW again.

I just posted this AtS.  (EDIT: LOL @ Txxx. Nothing personal, T a r a. Mods: Maybe it's time to remove that script?)

I've had 2 small packages lying around for literally a month now. They needed to be sent out, but were too heavy to be brought to work for lunchtime dropoff at our nearby post office. And on Saturday mornings, I never quite wake up in time (or rememeber) to go to the main post office on Montgomery.

Enter Keep Your Weekend.

When Txxx announced her small business, I contacted her immediately (after posting here and AtS). She came to our place at precisely the time she booked, picked up the two packages and $20 ($10 service fee is due up front, and normally she reimburses the client for postage, cost of goods, etc). I asked her to send it via UPS or USPS, whichever is cheaper and more convenient for her.

Txxx came back the following night. I expected to have to shell out an additional $5 or $10. The hubs went to meet her at our building entrance, and it turned out I was due some change (had I known, I would've give it to her as a tip!).

Anyway, Keep Your Weekend is definitely a good resource for commuters who have little to no personal time (yuppies, artists, and everything in between), particularly those who do not own cars. Her services are reasonably priced, and Txxx is nice to boot.

I highly recommend KYW's services and will definitely use it again.

Hi Keep Your Weekend.  This is slightly O/T  but when you post your email on websites you want to consider typing out at instead of using the @ symbol.

Spammers often harvest emails from message boards and you may end up getting bombarded with spam while important messages slip through.

Hi H-

Did you ever get the 2 emails I sent?  I also tried sending you a PM (I think on the other local website) but I'm not sure how often you check that.  You may want to check your bulk or spam folder, a few people mentioned my email replies were being filtered by yahoo.  If you could email me your phone number, I can give you a call and we can schedule you for a Monday evening pickup.

Thanks - T

Totally agree, Thebes, but there's a simple real estate rule here.  The more amenities, the more expensive the neighborhood.  We've had to "suck it up" in the Heights over some things and I do get bored with neighbor complaints about things like transport.  It's evolving as it yuppifies (which is good and bad).  If it were infrastructurally perfect, for sure we wouldn't have been able to afford it in the first place.  We've always had to live with Chinese carts until we could even afford a car.

We also lost 10 pounds each having to schlep it to the train from the Heights, so it ain't all bad!

Some of these services, like Fresh Direct are also pretty un-eco-friendly.  It's a darn shame we all have to work so hard to make money to buy ourselves conveniences that we wouldn't need if we were a little more France circa 2000.

Holy crap people will just back the hell off macyjane! Seriously, I know exactly how she feels. I moved to downtown in 1999 from the burbs... I had no idea that everything would shut down at FREAKIN' 10 pm. But i moved there for much bigger reasons, like a much shorter commute, so the positives far out weighed the negatives.

The Lincoln Park area has big beautiful houses and a park for half the price. Macy is only complaining about the lack of convenience for such small things. I would love to have this service in my area and that does not mean that I don't totally love where i live.

Geez, wasn't this whole site founded on bitching and moaning (well taunting and hazing too, but that is besides the point).

I get you Macy, sing it sister... demand better for your community, just don't bitch if it comes with negative side effects.

Thank you for this errand service... think of us small outliers when you expand your business, whoever you are.

Boy you people are MEAN.

Missa, I'm using Shoprite... My qualms with the JC aren't that it's too city like, it's not city like enough. I'm accustomed to having everything at my fingertips.. but here.. it's like I'm in the suburbs.. people are always asking me if I have a car.. If I buy an apartment on a street with no spots, why must I have a car to survive here??? I'm just saying, every neighborhood should be entirely self-sufficient.  I don't like hearing that I have to go to Grove Street to eat and order from Shoprite in Hoboken to have groceries.  It's not very convenient.

um, so you had no idea how or where you would do your daily errands before you moved here?

in my mind living in the city always requires some schlepping.  i dont have space in my place for a washer/dryer, so i have to bring it to the laundromat.  there are no produce or grocery stores very close that carry the types of foods i eat, so either i modify my menu and go to stevens or i walk to a veggie store, take the light rail or my car to shoprite or the a&p.  its too bad the bodegas by me close so early or i would be running there for my chocolate fixes more often.  too much to carry?  either become more aware of  your consumption habits and become more sustainable or invest in a granny cart.

sorry, maybe my DIY point-of-view is not good advice for you, i just hate to see your opinion of a place become soured after making such a large investment in it.

I hate when the second largest city in NJ doesn't feel "city" enough.  Must be a huge disappointment.

Sorry for my sarcasm (kinda) but you are just the latest in a recent slew of people who come here and then just start complaining about it.

I don't get it.

And that's why reasonable people do even the most basic research on neighborhoods they are buying (or even renting) property in before they decide to move there.

That your neighborhood does not meet your personal lifestyle standards is the fault of your poor decisions, not the neighborhood.

I wish you would do the Lincoln Park/West side area.. the inconvenience of living there is KILLING me.. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeee let me know if/when you reconsider.

will you please just utilize stop and shop or shoprite for their delivery services and quit complaining?  how did you ever cope in a city to begin with?

thank you and with love,

I will definitely use the parking permit service when I renew.

what's the going rate for weeding a sidewalk?

um, why not renew by mail??

it will only cost 42 cents (when the rates go up)

oh yeah, snow shovelling and gardening stuff would be great if you could contract that out, but understand staying focused and building what you have is essential.

Didn't "Fetch It" the urban errand company, not the JC dog store, run into problems when they tried to do too much? They were fantastic!

Thanks everyone for checking out my site. At this point, I will not be servicing the Lincoln Park area.  I've also received a few requests for the West Side.  I'm just starting out so I'm keeping the service area limited right now, but I haven't ruled anything out for the future.

The majority of the services I offer are targeted for people without cars, or those who work long hours and don't have the time to run errands, so I wasn't planning on doing yard/garden labor.  Sorry.

If there are any other places you need me to run to that aren't listed on my site, please don't hesitate to ask.
