Pulled a cork tonight. Strong acetic acid nose, diminishing after 3-4 hours breathing. Murky but bright color. Fruit forward, not much middle or back.. Maybe 12-13% ABV? I would like to revisit in another six months, maybe some of the particulate will deposit out. Hellz, I will even duke theBadGuy a Jackson for a bottle - and for the effort.Quote from: bdlaw on 06-25-2010, 10:23pmWell....Ten months or so later...This is actually drinkable. Popped about half an hour ago, into a carafe. Still a bit thin, a bit acidic... but there's the beginnings of something pretty good here. Gaining balance and a bit of weight. Showing a lot of the zinfandel, with coloring and perfume a bit from the merlot. The finish is beginning to persist and you can almost take away some chalk here.In retrospect, I would've liked to have tasted the base wines separately before making the final blend % but as this thread shows, I was pretty lazy. Will try again in about six months or so.Thanks again to TheBadGuy for putting this together.

Interesting. I don't know that I'd duke 'em 60 beans to attend though will be interesting to see how this turns out.My money's on Crushpad.Rousanne, eh? Odd choice. It's a notoriously difficult varietal to work both in the vineyard and in the winery.
They moved to, what, Belleville I think? Thanks for bumping this, guys- my summers are usually slower than other times of the year so I can *finally* put in a little manual labor on this. Pretty much can be flexible to when you guys want to go. question- is it sitting in oak or stainless? Longer it sits.... blah blah blah.Cheers!
Event below, plus bottling dates. We should start coordinating the best dates for bottling, it requires at least most of us to show up because of the amount of work......and wine to be consumed ____________________________________________________________________________Sunday, March 22, 2009 from 1:00-4:00pm is our next Barrel Tasting. Come in to taste your wine to see how it is developing. Stop by the tasting table for a taste of Chilean Wines, these grapes will be arriving within a month and will be available for only 1 week. It's not too early to schedule your bottling time if you haven't already done so! Bottling begins June 10th and ends August 9th.Looking forward to seeing you!Cheers,Diann & John

Harvest Kickoff Party is Saturday August 23rd 5-9 pm. Buffet dinner, wine, etc. This is the night the grapes get ordered. Please let me know if you are available to attend so I can give a head count.
Um, from the Make Wine With US FAQ page:Q: How much does it cost to make my own wine?A: The cost varies depending upon the varietal of grape that you choose and the quantity selected. The quantity ranges from ¼ of a barrel (which yields 60 bottles of wine) up to a full barrel (which yields 250 bottles). The average cost will range from $9.50 to $14.00 per bottle. So, 1 barrel = 250 bottles (or 252 as the tourguide mentioned) = 21 cases at 12 bottles per case.
. We're going to have to order the grapes very soon, so speak now or forever hold your jcpeace
So......August is here, and its clutch time. Are we still game or what?
Quote from: AG on 06-29-2008, 02:13pmI was thinking of going to grab a couple bottles of different wines from the place so we could try them. But, I am game for 2 cases of whateva'. Everybody seemed to enjoy the OVZ/Merlot, myself included. No, if anyone orders OVZ/Merlot, I'm leaving. I am NOT drinking any fu**ing OVZ/Merlot!

Can we just change the subject?
2 cases each sounds like a homerun to me, but what other type do you think we should throw in besides OVZ/Merlot? Perhaps something on the available list that we didn't have an opportunity to taste?
Keep in mind that 2 cases = 12 bottles of wine, not 24 (there's 6 bottles per case - it ain't beer, yo). We're in for 4 cases.
It looks like we're all in agreement regarding the Old Vine Zin/Merlot blend so far.
You can always join us, Texan. I'm sure you would be a welcome addition!CeeDub....I don't think we need to rent a barrell to make a varietal, as long as we pick a blend they regularly do. Either way, they wouldn't let us come up with our own custom blend (you have to have been making wine with them for 3 years before you can, and they wouldn't guarantee it to boot)So everyone is keen on the OVZ/Merlot so far, I see
finally, some progress. 7pm tomorrow at 930 Newark Ave. If anybody needs my mobile number in case they get confused as to where the entrance is, PM me.
Quote from: AG on 06-24-2008, 10:24amSince everybody thinks thursday is the way to go, then let's do it then. 7pm, everybody? We can meet everyone there at 7 pm on Thursday.

yay stinky feet!ETA - poor Anal Granny.
I could do Thursday. We wouldn't get there until probably 7ish, though.
AG, any chance of changing it to this Thursday, as I think we can get more people out (including me) that night? If not, no problemo.
Quote from: AG on 06-19-2008, 02:45pm25th or 26th 6-9 pm. They'll probably be doing bottling during these nights. We can tour the facility, and I'll see about the possibility of getting a tasting. So, ladies & lads.....wednesday or thursday next week? Wed. is good for me. Wednesday it is then. Any objections, speak now or forever hold your piece.

We could do the 25th or 26th.
damn it all to hell.......what about the 20th in the evening? Or early July? The grapes get ordered in August, so lets figure it out, people!
JUNE 28th..........I can schedule a private WiredJC tasting, if enough of us are serious about this. RSVP, bitches! Probably in the afternoon, around 2pm. I'm open to suggestions. WHO'S IN?
We can't do the 28th. I thought we had said the 21st? Oh well. Have fun!
okay. The Califonian grapes get ordered toward the end of August (Harvest Kick-off Party). One barrel should yield about 252 bottles.
... Everybody's opinion counts.

The price point depends on how much we purchase. I think I spent somewhere around $650 on a quarter barrel (roughly 10 cases) of wine. Once I get an idea of how many people want in, I'll get a group pricing schedule. All in all, it'll come down to how much wine we decide we want to make/bottle/take home
There are a lot of winos on this site who are still waiting for their Turley from a drunken squirrel
http://www.makewinewithus.com/A few of you mentioned you'd be interested in this, but I want to send the call out. If we get a good group together, each person owning equal "shares" in a barrel or two (or three), we could have a great time making wine at Make Wine with US on Newark Ave. Not only would we be making the wine, we'd meet every so often at the facility to sample it as it ages, enjoy dinner parties & events, etc etc etc. With enough group memebers, we'll be able to choose various grapes instead of just one type (at a much more reasonable price). All in all, we'd have a lot more fun, too. Hollah at me, WiredJCers. Anybody up for it? Give the above site a look-see and post a positive response if your interested. If you have questions or you're SURE you want to participate, PM me so I can coordinate everything Time is a factor, people, so let me know
