Does one need a motorcycle license to drive a scooter, or just a dork license? Serious replies only please.

Come on! Motorcycles and scooters (if they are not blocking the sidewalk--if they are up against a wall or maybe at the edge near the curb) should not be ticketed for parking on the sidewalk. And don't bitch and moan to me about "The law is on the books blah blah blah" If you don't know that laws are selectively enforced then you know nothing about how law enforcement operates. Fact.

Scooters and motorcycles on the sidewalk (NOT BLOCKING ANY FLOW OF PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC) mean more parking spots, a diminished reliance on foreign oil, and a myriad of other benefits.

Seriously if they are on the sidewalk and not blocking anyone.....what is the problem? Tell me.

Can't say you don't have a valid point. But I've had good luck and enjoy it very much. The parking is really the key for me, just pull up, pop up onto the sidewalk (if wide enough) and go. JCPA has been great and leave me alone.

anyone have a problem with someone parking a PRIVATELY OWNED vehicle on a PUBLIC sidewalk, when car owners are being booted for less intrusive infractions?

hellooooooo JCPA!

Fair enough. I'm not knocking Vespas. Just the idea of driving anything in Jersey City with less crash resistance than an M-1 Abrams.

Plus, they look so damn cool. Especially when you waive at people and say ciao.

I'm more concerned with the blind corners, non-working traffic lights, crazy-ass JC drivers, Fresh Direct trucks, lost idiots looking for the Holland Tunnel, and of course the complete disregard for pedestrians and traffic laws.

You forgot the potholes.  ;D

It's not the traffic that would worry me; if anything NYC-style, stop-and-go traffic makes things safer (less oppurtunity to speed up, more oppurtunity to look around).

I'm more concerned with the blind corners, non-working traffic lights, crazy-ass JC drivers, Fresh Direct trucks, lost idiots looking for the Holland Tunnel, and of course the complete disregard for pedestrians and traffic laws. JC motorists seem to think that if they lay on the horn while making an illegal turn or blowing through a red light, it somehow counts as fair warning.

As much as I'd love to trade in my vintage Schwinn (signed by Rivers Cuomo no less!!) for a Vespa, it's dangerous enough just walking around here.

There are thousands of Vespas are all over NYC, I'd think there is a bit more traffic in NYC than there is in JC. I feel safe on mine in JC, as well as on the highway and tunnel. It's just something you have to get comfortable doing. But the ease of parking and getting around traffic is well worth any fears I had to overcome. It is an absolute dream!!

As for the theft concern, I have Lo-Jack, an alarm and insurance. If they still get it, they earned it!!!  O0

Anywhere else, and I'd say a Vespa is a great way to get around town.

In JC, I'd say a Vespa is a great way to paint Columbus Drive a shiny new coat of brainmatter.

Yes it's true! Vespa is coming to Jersey City. The temporary sales trailer is slated to open this week, while their store is being worked on. It's located at 247 Tenth Street (Behind the Ale House, across from the Park Foundry & Schroeder Lofts) They have about 40 scooters (Vespa & Piaggio) in stock. For more info, go to http://www.vespajc.com or call 201-vespajc

My thoughts exactly. I don't even know where one would RIDE a Vespa here in JC, knowing at some point one would have to park it. I certainly wouldn't wanna park it on the street, even across the street from City Hall!

Where does one keep a Vespa in the city?  I would be worried someone would pick it up and walk away with it.  >:D

Wonder if they'll do rentals too.  That would be fun. Buying one is just too expensive.
