I went to the VESPA place this morning.  The guy that helped me was really nice and informative.

They have a bunch of Vespa and Piaggio scooters in stock and are planning on getting more inventory today.  He said that a 50cc would be adequate for zipping around town.

You do in fact need a motorcycle license to ride one of these.  I think the dork license is optional.  I still have to renew mine from my days in the math league.

In any event, a Vespa could be a viable errand running option for me.

Gee thanks hurtle for that clever and constructive post.

I hope you're not knocking me.

Is the business JC123 owns Vespa of Jersey City?  All 5 posts on this board are about Vespa, and 5 of 9 posts on JCLIST as JR123 are on Vespa.  Self serving?

I don't get your logic.  Almost all of your posts on jclist recently are about the farmers market in Hamilton Park and you have nothing to do with that.

I apologize if you're not the real Minnie.  Oh, and it's Hurtle with a capitol H.

Does one need a motorcycle license to drive a scooter, or just a dork license? Serious replies only please.

Wouldn't a dork license allow me to ride a dork around?  For the road test, do you have to bring your own dork or is one provided for you?

Wonder if they'll do rentals too.  That would be fun. Buying one is just too expensive.

We should all rent one and have a burnout and wheelie competition.  Maybe some Vespa jousting too.  Do you think we'd get our deposit back if someone put a lance through the spokes at 50 MPH?

According to the DC Examiner, "Mr. Macho recently stopped by the Vespa dealership in Glover Park and took home a LXV 150 scooter, which can reach speeds of up to 60 miles per hour." When asked about his purchase, Rumsfeld refused to comment.

Thank you for the kind words, I enjoy the job, or at least I did.....

As for the the permits, I do agree that the JCPA is out of control with the booting. It comes down to ca$h!! $110 per boot, $35 to the boot company and $75 to the city. The city is making a ton of cash on this.... the whole idea of booting to keep NYC commuters off our streets is good and I'm sorry if you have gotten caught up in it. But they have taken it too far and something needs to be done.

JCPA does not care about cops or anyone else, park and your getting a ticket. I wish they would give me a break, they hit my car all the *&^%$ time.

I am not the owner of Vespa JC, I wish I had that kind of cash...... Just happy they are here!!

Oh, by the way. Car owners are being booted for not having a permit, in other words, people who don't live here. If you have an issue with a scooter parked on the sidewalk not blocking anything, i assume you have an issue with bicycles also; as they take up the same amount of room. N.J.S.A.39:4-138f is the violation for parking on the sidewalk. I wrote it once. 15 years ago to a drunk who parked on the sidewalk and passed out in the street. A scooter on the sidewalk or against a house??? I don't think so!

Just for your info, officer XXX, just because someone doesn't have a permit doesn't necessarily mean the owner of the vehicle doesn't "live" here. I have owned a condo in Jersey City for almost 5 years. I pay the absurd property and city taxes as any other home owner does. I patronize many local businesses as well as contribute to some local charities.
However, I own a home elsewhere in this state that I consider to be my primary residence. Because I won't change my driver's license to say that I live in ths (cough)  ;D outstanding town, I can't get a permit. And if I did change my license to this (cough)  ;D outstanding location, my car insurance would jump up by about $750.00 per year. Hardly worth it. And if I should happen to drop dead while on location in Jersey City, the last thing that I want my obit to say is so and so from Jersey City. :barf:

And by the way. JCPA probably leaves YOU alne because you are a :cop:

Lastly, thatnk you for your service. I mean this sincerely.

Of course Vespas should be able to park on the sidewalk. Look at all the energy they save! Oil is going to run out some day and it will be because of all the sedans and SUV's (and the Chinese), not because of the Vespas. And why should car owners be against them? The incidence of car break-ins will decline significantly. What local thug will be looking to score a GPS unit, when he can hoist a Vespa into a BJ's shopping cart and roll it away? (Note: BJ's shopping carts are virtually invisible to the JCPD).

And in a town where hospitals have to close because they don't get enough business to make a profit, what can be a better life saver, so to speak, than a bunch of Vespa drivers? Greenville Hospital: Never again.

Here's to the forward-thinking JCPA which places the welfare of the City, its institutions and society in general above the opportunity to rack up a few easy fines.

i'm pretty sure it's the class 1 wussfag license, but i need to check with the motor vehicle commission to be sure. shouldn't be a problem to obtain, considering that there's a well documented causal relationship (thanks, kindelan) between parking on the sidewalk and energy consumption.
