A real patriot would know that the USA PATRIOT Act is an acronym for the "Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001."

Then shouldn't it be the USAPATRIOT Act so it doesn't mislead morans?  ;)

Great books to read about language and politics.

Plastic Words: The Tyranny of a Modular Language, By Uwe Poerksen

What Orwell Didn't Know: Propaganda and the New Face of American Politics

Darna: could someone please splain to me why a person in a gang is called a gangbanger but a gangbang has nothing to do with gang activity?

shahaggy: can't believe I'm saying this but +1 jehu

[02:58 PM] MCA: it's not stalking, it's caring enough to find out things she won't tell you herself

[01:35 PM] shahaggy: fine but jehu's correct

TheFang: as much as it pains me to say, jehu might be right.

One time, I hired a monkey to take notes for me in class. I would just sit back with my mind completely blank while the monkey scribbled on little pieces of paper. At the end of the week, the teacher said, "Class, I want you to write a paper using your notes." So I wrote a paper that said, "Hello! My name is Bingo! I like to climb on things! Can I have a banana? Eek, eek!"

Also, "USA" is not an adjective.  It should either be the "USA act," the "PAtriot act" or the "American Patriot" act.  Morans.

Oh yeah, also the "USA Patriot" act.  How about some truth in advertising.  How about the "we screw you, and inconvenience you at airports for no discernable benefit act of 2001."

Also, "USA" is not an adjective.  It should either be the "USA act," the "PAtriot act" or the "American Patriot" act.  Morans.

I always get nervous when party types start giving stupid ass names to whatever piece of legislation and/or marketing they are putting out.  It seems to me that they are desperate to control the discourse, principally because whatever it is they are "naming" is bullshit- very Orwellian.  Like the "No Child Left Behind" act.  Who could vote against that?  Never mind that it was a floating turd, we can't leave children behind.  And it's called "no child let behind" ergo it leaves, as it were, no child behind.

I would very much rather the Democrats showed us that they were listening rather than simply telling us that they are listening.  Methinks the party doth protest too much.

I mean really, if they had discovered this little marketing trick back in the sixties, would we be celebrating the "We loves the Black Peoples" act of 1965?

I'm the Chakotay that you want me to be.

When have we ever been heard? Our system of government was particularly designed to be slow moving when it comes to the 'tyranny of the majority'. Blame the game not the players.

I was.
Bobblehead: Wow, BMWs, cameras, and anal probes. Are we in Berlin?

[10:33 AM] del ban Woodsy: You do that and I will wash your mouth out with summer's eve after I kick your ass jehu.

Darna: it's because my people spend much of their lives barefoot, so when they discover shoes, it's a party!

RB: i rubbed mine last night to be ready for tonight

Burroughs: Thank you for a country in which no one is free to mind his own business

Yes. Feel like your participating. Like you 'feel' that you voted for President when in actuality you didn't.

Or "feel" like your voice is being heard when in actuality, it isn't.

Well, if you really do want to go and speak to Obama, he'll be down in New Brunswick next week on the 16 at a rally for Corzine.

It is not like any of the ideas are actually going to make their way up to the Whitehouse...

This is to make us feel engaged with the progress Obama is making and to gauge public opinion on topics that might become issues later...

The telling word in jehu's post is "feel".

It would be nice if they were implementing some of the ideas they received from change.gov, change.org, whitehouse.gov or citizensbriefingbook.change.gov before gathering new ones.

Well it is an "Democratic National Committee's grassroots" organization that put this together and I am sure they used the DNC's mailing list... Not like they would have access to the RNC's mailing list to notify you about it... Not sure if they did advertisements, but then again this cuts into your bar time so I am sure you would not be interested.  >:D

Actually shahaggy... If you were on the Dems mailing list you would have known about it...

I think you should show up and start throwing tea bags at the speakers...  >:D

"President Bush has presided over the largest overall increase in inflation-adjusted federal spending since Lyndon B. Johnson. Even after excluding spending on defense and homeland security, Bush is still the biggest-spending president in 30 years. His 2006 budget doesn’t cut enough spending to change his place in history, either"

LARGEST SPENDING UNTIL THE OBAMASIAH CAME ALONG

oh and are you saying it should only be open to democrats and not publicized to the general public???
[04:53 PM] Soshin: I don't think I've ever had fig spread Darna but I like figs and they make my sphincter sing power ballads

[12:48 PM] Bobblehead: Yo, you know I'm really happy for you and Ima let you finish, but soshin had one of the best meercat shouts of all time

[10:23 PM] skwirrlking: you submitting darna for beards eating cupcakes - mca?

[03:24 PM] Darna: [03:22 PM] jeht'aimeu: skw, you are climbing up my pole as well...

[02:28 PM] propscene: I DPON"T MEAN I LOVE YOU DEEP INSIDE AS MUCH AS I LOVE HIM DEEP INSIDE OH GOD

or a complete joke jehu.
will they pre-screen who can speak or is this just a chance for the dems to yell over whatever the public really has to say.
the fact that I never heard about this advertised anywhere before the day of comes off disingenuous.

Dems have 'listening' session tonight at 7
Wednesday, July 08, 2009
By JAMIE SCHUH
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

Looking for a way to give President Obama a piece of your mind?

Well, Organizing for America, the Democratic National Committee's grassroots effort to support the president's agenda, has a meeting on tap tonight in Jersey City to listen to you.

Scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Hudson County Democratic Party's headquarters, at 74 Oakland Ave., the meeting is part of OFA's "listening tours" that are being held across the nation to gather ideas from the public.

All are welcome, regardless of party affiliation, organizers said. The focus of tonight's meeting will be the president's health care reform initiative.

"What works in Hudson County will not work in Somerset or Atlantic (counties)," said OFA's New Jersey director, Samantha Gordon, noting eight meeting are planned across the state.

"We just want to make sure that people are involved in the political process," she added. "There's a lot of work to be done in New Jersey, and we could use their help."
