i think it's pretty clear, we're just gonna have to take up jazz.

hey bryan, is jazz hard to play?  it looks really easy.  you just make it up as you go, right?

Agreed. The first act seemed to do well regarding the sound system, as did the jazz daddies. It's those pedal pushing mofos that had the problem.  O0

let's no pile on the sound guys.  it's a difficult job trying to coordinate sound for as many acts as they had to on saturday.  everyone has a different setup and is loading in and out in like ten minutes.  i think they did a pretty great job all things considered.  also, we were probably nowhere near as preped as we should have been in terms of understanding the specifics of the setup.

also, the dj was kick ass.

Puppies, unicorns, and rainbows. . . .

Hey, did you see the Jersey Journal article about the shootings on Wayne Street?

good effort, fellas.
i thought you were victims of a sound system that was not nearly up to the task.

not that you needed an arena sound system...but some stage monitors and some more wattage would have been helpful. that weakass, monitorless system was not conducive to working with subtle vocals. but wtf are you supposed to do? start screeching like a 80s metal vocalist??

bad sound systems and inept sound people piss me off and are, unfortunately, as american as cherry pie. but i admire artists that soldier on despite the adversity...so methinks it was a good baptism by fire for you guys.

Whip out that sax and crunch some oingo boingo into your style.  That would be awesome.

Screw you if you don't like Oingo Boingo.

i don't entirely dislike oingo boingo.  i prefer wall of voodoo, however.

You guys rocked! I have had no fewer than 9 people in the neighborhood come up to me in the past couple days and comment on how fantastic the music and entertainment was this year at the Festival. Thank you for making it happen.

Thank you for having us.  Believe me it was intimidating (but an honor) to share the stage with the likes of Bryan Beninghove and the awesome Prairie Dogs.  And the Impulse, who i dig very much.

Funny - I didn't read this thread all morning.  I thought it was going to be about those horses that people used to see around town once in a while.

I *do* happen to own a sax.  And I'm TERRIFIED to take it out of it's case and try to play it.

once upon a time, i was in a band with a trumpet player who could not play trumpet.  at all.  we were pretty good actually.

If you haven't had enough time to rehearse, next time just drink much beer before the show, it will all work out.  8)

Set was sort of Yo La Tengo-y-ish with a splash of Mission of Burma.  ;D  Imagine what  you could do with some horns.  ;D

I was feeling more of an 'early Joy Division' vibe. How about adding a synthesizer?

no synth. not yet, anyway. maybe not ever. we're trying to keep the synth out of it.

My favorite moments were the feedback-enhanced vocals on the first number and those cool, crunchy sounds obtained by refitting the guitar jack after its disconnection. Further exploration down those avenues could be quite rewarding.

hahaha...all in good time.

thank you all for the moral support on saturday (and prior)...i still haven't even watched this video yet.  i'm kind of frightened to.  it was a blast, though, and i think eventually we will get good.  or die trying. this will not be the last show if i get anything to say about it.

four songs was unfortunately the most you were gonna get out of us for this, cause our amazing bass player bd blind lemon had just like four days to learn the songs.  it was like boot camp for a week.  on top of that, we haven't really played together live as a band before at all.  we had recorded a bunch of this stuff (plus) but as far as live performing goes, we were coming in completely cold.  but it was fun as hell and no one seems to think it was awful, which given the prep time, it had ever right to be.

more shows, more songs, more glitter, we're just starting this shit.

thanks everyone. we really do appreciate yall having our back.

Not bad for a first show, boys! There were the obvious technical glitches: barely audible vocals, and Dan's kit moving around, but you guys did well despite them. I liked the song, very Helium-like with the sudden stops & starts. El G is the male Mary Timony!

I'm sure with more practice and more shows under your belt, AYH will get their timing down and become tighter. So, when's the next show?

Justi, if I remember correctly, the band is named after a B-side song on a bootleg McCartney album.

The levels on the vocals were a bit off.  I couldn't understand any words.  But I really didn't give a shit about that 'cause the guitar was frickin' ROCKIN' THE HOUSE!  Excellent performance, especially when compared to the sleepy-time jazz band that preceded you.

Only two suggestions for improvement.

1- play more songs.

2- find a new name.  That horse rider name?  Completely gaylicious.
