99 Problems but APW ain't one of them

http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/23/jay-z-to-replace-beastie-boys-at-all-points-west/?hp

This actually sounds like a pretty good deal to me
"god hates you. you will all go to yuppie hell. in yuppie hell there is no starbucks or hole foods or sushi bar. in yuppie hell you will work 16 hours a day in a bodega. in yuppie hell your car will not start when the sweeper is coming down the street. in yuppie hell your doorman will terrorize you and have sex with your wife or husband...when you are at work....in the bodega. in yuppie hell you will go to the laundromat and lose your last quarter in a broken washing machine. in yuppie hell you will buy all your food and clothing at the 99 cent store. in yuppie hell there are no cell phones, you will use a pay phone. a filthy pay phone".      -   Cat_Man Dude

Yeah, because it's all about YOU.

>:D
Bobblehead: Wow, BMWs, cameras, and anal probes. Are we in Berlin?

[10:33 AM] del ban Woodsy: You do that and I will wash your mouth out with summer's eve after I kick your ass jehu.

Darna: it's because my people spend much of their lives barefoot, so when they discover shoes, it's a party!

RB: i rubbed mine last night to be ready for tonight

Burroughs: Thank you for a country in which no one is free to mind his own business

Sad to hear....

Darna: could someone please splain to me why a person in a gang is called a gangbanger but a gangbang has nothing to do with gang activity?

shahaggy: can't believe I'm saying this but +1 jehu

[02:58 PM] MCA: it's not stalking, it's caring enough to find out things she won't tell you herself

[01:35 PM] shahaggy: fine but jehu's correct

TheFang: as much as it pains me to say, jehu might be right.

One time, I hired a monkey to take notes for me in class. I would just sit back with my mind completely blank while the monkey scribbled on little pieces of paper. At the end of the week, the teacher said, "Class, I want you to write a paper using your notes." So I wrote a paper that said, "Hello! My name is Bingo! I like to climb on things! Can I have a banana? Eek, eek!"

[12:48 PM] Bobblehead: Yo, you know I'm really happy for you and Ima let you finish, but soshin had one of the best meercat shouts of all time

[10:23 PM] skwirrlking: you submitting darna for beards eating cupcakes - mca?

[03:24 PM] Darna: [03:22 PM] jeht'aimeu: skw, you are climbing up my pole as well...

[02:28 PM] propscene: I DPON"T MEAN I LOVE YOU DEEP INSIDE AS MUCH AS I LOVE HIM DEEP INSIDE OH GOD

So, are any of these bands any good (please don't say "Coldplay")?

Seriously, could one of our resident guru's (I'm lookin' at you Goodo) come up with a "lazy person's listening guide to APW?"

This way, I can stroll down the boardwalk (or, more likely, sneak in) when the good bands are playing.  The rest of the time I can carouse in the park.

Thanks in advance,
-M

In my humble opinion, these are the bands worth seeing each day, and surprisingly, there's a good amount of them. Oh and the APW website has clips of each band.

Friday:
Yea- Shearwater, Fleet Foxes and the Pharcyde
Mea- Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, The National and Beastie Boys
Nea- Vampire Weekend, and the rest.

Saturday:
Yea- Tool, My Bloody Valentine, Gogol Bordello, Artic Monkeys, Ting Tings, ....Trail of Dead, White Rabbits.
Mea- Nico Case
Nea- No one really seems like not worth seeing, the best night all around I'd say.

Sunday:
Yea- Echo and the Bunnymen, Black Keys, Elbow, and Mogwai
Mea- Silversun Pickups, We Are Scientist, the Gaslight Anthem.
Nea- Coldplay.

+1 on The Black Keys, I am a fairly recent convert as I figured they were just a White Stripes clone, boy was I wrong.  Their last two albums have been melting my earwax for the last couple of months.

I am going Sunday, so I've only really paid attention to Sunday's line-up.  If you take the vaginal discharge known as Coldplay out of the line-up it is actually not that bad at all.  Mogwai, the Scottish depressionists are a great festival band but I fear the will be on whilst it is still light out which means they may sound and look a little out of place.  Usually they have a killer light show and their music suits the dark corners of many a bad acid trip quite nicely.

Elbow's last album was really good, which coming from me is a helluva statement as I am not known for my love of bands from Manchester.  It has an orchestral-rock thing going on that reminds me of the Cocteau Twins or Soft Bulletin-era Flaming Lips.

Echo and the Bunnymen are one of those bands that I only own a "greatest hits" by since I have never really felt the need to check 'em that much deeper, however what I know I like better now than I did when it first came out.  Ian McCullough is one of the best singers out there and I think he'll probably be well worth watching.

Gaslight Anthem are the new local boys on the bill but I bet they go down a storm as they basically sound like Born to Run-era Springsteen, and if the audience has a large NJ contingent they will lap it up.

During the Coldplay set you will find me downing my last mandated 7th beer of the day and burning myself alive in a port-a-potty.  All in all should be a good day.

The Black Keys are the reason I'm going....they are sick!  blues infused rock with an edge.

It certainly did NOT work like that last year.  It would be great if it did.  Last year they basically treated the paying audience as if they were children (only 3 beers allowed per person for a 12 hour concert, etc.)

I sent about 4 emails to the info at APW a couple months ago, never heard back....

I also did not know about the ridiculous beer rule until after I bought my tickets.  Now I am starting to think I should have opted for making the trip to Chi-town again, where it is laid back and the beer and wine flow freely (as long as you have the cash) from 20 different locations and you can come and go as you please....

Do you get a wristband, so you can enter and exit the park throughout the day?  Do you have the option to leave and come back in the same day?

That's how Lollapalooza works and I'm hoping that is how APW works as well.
