I'm in.  And maybe I'll let my boyfriend come along too.

I plan on being there 10am Friday...  ;D

What are you going to do for the six hours before they open?

Mon - Fri
4:00 PM - 2:00 AM

:P
Bobblehead: Wow, BMWs, cameras, and anal probes. Are we in Berlin?

[10:33 AM] del ban Woodsy: You do that and I will wash your mouth out with summer's eve after I kick your ass jehu.

Darna: it's because my people spend much of their lives barefoot, so when they discover shoes, it's a party!

RB: i rubbed mine last night to be ready for tonight

Burroughs: Thank you for a country in which no one is free to mind his own business

I just came back from that building and they got the handles on the taps. Looks like a good selection. Though, I will admit I was disappointed to see a big ol' TV above one of the bars.

Darna: could someone please splain to me why a person in a gang is called a gangbanger but a gangbang has nothing to do with gang activity?

shahaggy: can't believe I'm saying this but +1 jehu

[02:58 PM] MCA: it's not stalking, it's caring enough to find out things she won't tell you herself

[01:35 PM] shahaggy: fine but jehu's correct

TheFang: as much as it pains me to say, jehu might be right.

One time, I hired a monkey to take notes for me in class. I would just sit back with my mind completely blank while the monkey scribbled on little pieces of paper. At the end of the week, the teacher said, "Class, I want you to write a paper using your notes." So I wrote a paper that said, "Hello! My name is Bingo! I like to climb on things! Can I have a banana? Eek, eek!"

Are you calling us Americans fat ???

LOL, Mac.  The joke has to do with the uncanny ability of Pinoys to squeeze more people in a space than is otherwise humanly possible.  True, we as a people are smaller.  But it's also because we are just more used to uncomfortable situations.

to wit:  the jeepney

Oh, and Pinoys can be Americans too.  ;)

I've seen that space.  No way 800 people could fit there unless they were all Pinoy.

The real question here is will it be opened on Friday...
I also have the day off so if it is open I will find you there :)

I just saw the ad on Facebook too and rushed over here to post about it.

So, do you think it will be packed on Friday when it opens?   I'm taking the day off, so maybe I could get started early...

If your expecting Currywurst, you might be dissapointed.  It looks like this place is strictly Bavarian.  Curywurst is straight up Berlin.  Tell these dudes, however, that Bavaria has the least cool cusine in all of D-Land, and that thye should throw in some Currywurst.  It's wicked simple to make.  Also, as the Palatinate has, unarguably, the finest cuisine in Germany, tell them that if they do not offer  Saumagen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saumagen within a week, you will carry out JC's first Beer Hall Putsch.  JAWOHL!

I just (as in 10 minutes ago) walked past there, and the bars seem finally set up, but there is no other furniture in there and lots of ladders.

Blogger Draw & Quarter has more ZH construction pics here. FYI, the thing under the tarp in the outdoor area is a full bar with taps.

I sent an email to the address listed on their website.  They replied and said they're ready to open any day now.  They're shooting for the middle of next week.

I'm really looking forward to this place.

I checked out the progress on Saturday and yeah, they have a long way to go!

Since currywurst doesn't seem to be on the website's menu as I had hoped (apparently they're sticking to traditional south German delicacies like, uh, kielbasa, andouille sausage and Buffalo wings), I thought I'd share a recipe.  I had this stuff almost once a day on recent trip to northern Germany and this simple, easy to make sauce tasted better than most of the versions I tried.  Sweet and savory, it's a great remedy for a certain type of late-night hunger.

Currywurst
(curry-infused tomato ketchup over pork sausage with even more curry powder)

1 small yellow onion, diced
2 cups canned whole peeled tomatoes incl. liquid
2 tblsp. curry powder
1 tblsp. paprika
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
salt to taste

Sausage - There are sausages used exclusively for currywurst, but I'm lazy and it's a short walk to Pathmark for Johnsonville bratwurst and the rest of the ingredients.  Besides, the sauce overpowers the sausage.  In fact, I was told one of the reasons that the dish exists in the first place was to make poor quality sausage palatable during the post-war years.  If you don't have an outdoor grill (I don't), steam them for 10 minutes in a covered pan with a little water and then fry in an oiled skillet until browned.

Sauté the onion in vegetable oil until soft.  Add curry powder, paprika and stir briefly to mix.  Crush the tomatoes and add along with the liquid.  Add sugar and vinegar.  Simmer for 25 minutes or until thickened.  Puree with a stick blender or in batches in a traditional blender.

Ladle over sliced wurst and finish with a liberal sprinkling of curry powder.  Serve with bread, or if you're motivated, with fries and dollop of mayo (mit Pommes und Weiss).

I walked by here yesterday night and they don't seem anywhere near done with construction, I'd be amazed if this place opens this summer. But I really hope they prove me wrong, won't have to go out to Williamsburg and Astoria anymore to get my beergarden fixes.

Excellent. We need an ethnicity to compete with the filipino places in the "Delicious Food that Will Kill You" category. Round # 1: Crispy Pata vs. Schweinshaxen!

Their dessert menu seems suspiciously bereft of life-shortening items, however; need to include something with several layers of custard and marzipan.

And where's the suelze?!?

Looking forward....
