To me (in my opinion) Taqueria is the best, anyone saying otherwise (if you don't agree) is just following the "I hate Taqueria" mantra (your opinion is not valid because you are just following the herd) and is not worthy of their delicious bites.

in other words, if we don't agree with your opinion, we're wrong. brilliant

Isn't beginning your post with "To me..." basically saying all that already? There's enough verbal bloat around these parts anyway; let's try not to encourage redundancy on the boards.

there's a difference between saying "i think X is Y" and saying "i think X is Y, but if you think otherwise then you're wrong". it has nothing to do with redundancy.

As for BD's opinion, I'd say "bland" is probably the antithesis of the food I've had a Taqueria Downtown. The carnitas and steak tacos are well-spiced, and the home-made salsas are excellent (they are, in keeping with Mexican style, quite watery for American tastes). Also, they make their own tortillas, so you may have had a bad batch. Personally (that means "in my opinion," in case you have trouble with reading comprehension), I think anything cooked with lard can't be all that bland.

Now if only they delivered . . . .
A particularly Jersey malaise—the inextinguishable longing for elsewheres.

I am on record as thinking Tacqueria is over-rated.  I've never caught attitude there, which seems to always be the major complaint from "the herd" who slam the place; I simply don't care for the food, it has never impressed me.

I find it bland, boring, and uninspired. You can rave all you want about authenticity, but if the food is boring, who cares?  My major peeve here are the tortillas- they're bone dry, mealy, and taste like cardboard.

*That said, the fish they put in the fish tacos is ok.

Isn't that what happened to OX? They went away on vacation and never re-opened?
Darna: could someone please splain to me why a person in a gang is called a gangbanger but a gangbang has nothing to do with gang activity?

shahaggy: can't believe I'm saying this but +1 jehu

[01:35 PM] shahaggy: fine but jehu's correct

TheFang: as much as it pains me to say, jehu might be right.

One time, I hired a monkey to take notes for me in class. I would just sit back with my mind completely blank while the monkey scribbled on little pieces of paper. At the end of the week, the teacher said, "Class, I want you to write a paper using your notes." So I wrote a paper that said, "Hello! My name is Bingo! I like to climb on things! Can I have a banana? Eek, eek!"

Well, that sign wasn't there last night at about 7pm, and the place was as closed as a conservative's mind. No answer or message on the phone, either.

I happily stand corrected.

Tsk, tsk, tsk, MCA, I would figure you of all would do some checking before starting such rumors. I walked past Bubby's about 20 minutes ago and there is a sign up that says that they are closed for the week for kitchen renovations. It even says "see you next week!" on it. So Bubby's still exists.

I don't have any specific problems with Taqueria except that I got sick right around a time that I had just eaten huevos rancheros there a few years ago. It may or may not have been them but I haven't really eaten there since - I usually avoid foods that I've eaten right around when I get sick, and they weren't the only potential suspect.

That said, I did like their tacos and never had a problem with their service or anything. Unless I'm insulted personally or spending a lot of money I don't really care about attitude. It's a cool little place and the tacos seem authentic to me: great fillings (carnitas, etc), good tortillas, lime, radish slice... what is inauthentic about that?

Anyway the carnitas torta from The Taco Truck is still the greatest single bit of Mexican food I've eaten in Jersey City or Hoboken.

I've had tacos from the place across the Armory, they were allright.  I've also had tacos in Bayonne, they sucked.  To me Taqueria is the best, anyone saying otherwise is just following the "I hate Taqueria" mantra and is not worthy of their delicious bites.  I believe comparing Bubby's to Taqueria is like comparing apples to oranges by the way.

They do have sort of a weird, reduced hours schedule there. Maybe they're only open for dinner now? But I know MCA, in his admin role, wouldn't be irresponsible enough to post false information like that.

I was basing my post on what MCA wrote and something that we likely both read on another website ( :drama: )
Hopefully this was a headless taco rumor and nothing more.
Aforementioned, other website is now reporting that Bubby's is not closed. go figure.

I saw them open earlier this week. I find this hard to believe.

Bubby's was a quality downtown vegetarian option on the SF Mission tip...though msjcp never dug their non-veg stuff.
DT getting like a bad hick college town in terms of the takeout options...kinda sad.

I can't count how many times I saw Mr Bubby torchin' one up in plane view, though. That kinda goes against my stoner code of ethics: get high after work, dude...

I've heard from bdlaw that Taqueria is very good  :P

However, in all seriousness - Pompeii Pizza on Westside Ave is owned by Mexicans and they make some EXCELLENT tacos.  Way way better than the aforementioned Taccy hipster shithole.

I have also heard rumors of a really good place across the road from the Armory on Montgomery.  I believe a man called Kindelan ate there first and can enlighten us with some more details.

Nothing will ever replace Charritos tho  :'(  (FYI - I believe there is still one in Union City for those of us who are Hobokenphobic).

Now that Charrito's in the Heights and downtown's own Bubby's Burritos have bitten the dust, where do I get my Mexican fix? TIA.
