You may be able to find some at Whole Foods.  I think the easiest way is to just go to the wine store and ask for a recomendation. I don't think it's rare question these days.

How does a troglodyte such as myself obtain reasonably-priced and delicious wine that does not contain sulfites.

Oh, yeah. It's not something everyone likes but Wookie and I like it--and Wookie's not a wine drinker.

I like Rosemont Estate's Shiraz as a standby to keep on hand or pick up quick. Then again I've never met an Australian wine I didn't like.

But for wine I keep at home, from Finger Lakes, NY, I also like Pleasant Valley Pink Catawba (made from native grapes) and Chocolate Lab (yes wine with a hint of chocolate--definitely different).

Santa Ema Cabernet Sauvignon (from Chile).  A good every day wine.  I've seen it anywhere from $5 to $10 a bottle.

Prosecco is a new favorite of mine when it's hot outdoors.  One that I've been enjoying lately from Sparrow Wine is Riondo.  It's about $10 a bottle and Robert Parker gives it a 90.

Yummy.

Guigal Cote du Rhone for red (most everything from Guigal is good)
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc for white

I love Guigal. The Cote du Rhone is excellent. If you can find their Tavel Rose, I really liked that too.

Curious: what's your inexpensive*, buy-it-by-the-case to have around,  goes with most anything in a pinch or good by itself workhorse wine?

(*for me that's less than $10)

Hey folks i'm helping out City Vino - a new wine store opening up in PH under Liberty Towers - with their opening

Two things:
any comments/feedback for a new store
 - things/brands to carry
 - what you'd like to see (they will be doing classes)
i'm not that familiar with wine but will get the answers.

second thing if you're interested in wine and being invited to the grand opening party (invite only) - let me know (PM me) ;)

Wine - Fruit of the vine and the Work of Human Hands . . .

A place to post any/everything about wine - including what you cook/order/eat with it.
Shouldn't you have included Ernest and Julio Gallo in this title?

I like Jacob's Creek Shiraz. Very cheap and reliable.

I haven't had it in a while, but I used to love Walnut Crest merlot. It's very cheap and is just a good workhorse red... at least it used to be. Goes with most anything. At the very least worth a try.

As for whites, I recently discovered Clos du Bois chardonnay, which, for like $9 a bottle, is a pretty good bargain. Very nice.

A NYC shipping address is useful for inter-state shipments.  NJ PA and CT do not permit Calif wineries to shop direct to consumers.

This thread will grow like a flowr bloom in a jerez bodega and we will eventually change the name of the site to winedJC :bozo:

Cool thread, but where do I start?

I will say that I tried a *great* chardonnay while on vacation, and they happen to have it at the Wine Library in Springfield, NJ (a 25 minute drive from JC): Matanzas Creek Winery, 2005 Sonoma.

Good stuff.

wine library is great. usually has some of the best prices around and will deliver. i usually get cases sent to office in NYC. shipping costs are a wash with tax savings. gary vaynerchuk can be a bit promotional, but he's entertaining. PJ Wine in NYC has some good deals, as well (free delivery in NYC on orders over $100).
Nonetheless, always easy to price compare at wine-searcher.com

A place to post any/everything about wine - including what you cook/order/eat with it.

Some helpful hints / PITA requests

When mentioning a wine, please include as much information as you can from the label.
Basic info would be the type- red, etc, the vintage, the name, the varietal, etc.  Alcohol % if it is important - like a 15.4% Zin or a 6.5% Vinho Verde.  Where you obtained it and price is good - and if you have a link, add that too!!

Santé!!
