The movie was enlightening for me in that it showed farmers who made a lot more money per acre farming sustainably (with diverse crops and herds of livestock) than with industrial-style monoculture and factory farming. They also cited a study that showed mid-size, sustainable organic farming produced more food per acre than industrial farming, debunking the myth that you can't "feed the world" with organic farming.

I do disagree with the movie about the benefits of GMOs, however.

Great screening and great dialog tonight!
Kudos to the entire co-op crew.

It takes a community to realize something ambitious like this.

Community is what it's all about! :2thumbs:

JC Food Coop & Art House Productions will be hosting a screening and discussion of FRESH the movie next Tuesday the 13th at 7pm.

Quote
FRESH celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system. Each has witnessed the rapid transformation of our agriculture into an industrial model, and confronted the consequences: food contamination, environmental pollution, depletion of natural resources, and morbid obesity. Forging healthier, sustainable alternatives, they offer a practical vision for a future of our food and our planet.

Among several main characters, FRESH features urban farmer and activist, Will Allen, the recipient of MacArthur’s 2008 Genius Award; sustainable farmer and entrepreneur, Joel Salatin, made famous by Michael Pollan’s book, The Omnivore’s Dilemma; and supermarket owner, David Ball, challenging our Wal-Mart dominated economy.
