Now called Fit and Trim
I joined Gold Coast because I liked the open space and no-frills attitude. They also had a spin class every Tuesday and Thursday that kicked my butt.

Unfortunately, Gold Coast is now called Fit and Trim and they moved a few doors down on Newark Avenue into a 5th floor office space that is carpeted, has individual rooms, and is very stuffy. Yes, there are now windows but the space just doesn't make sense...doesn't feel like a gym (maybe feels like a hotel gym at best) and they got rid of much of the equiptment I use. They also do not currently have showers in the "locker room".

The change has left the gym empty and so I, too, left after giving it a fair shot. Had they let me know they were moving I might not have signed up. Now I am fighting for my dues for this month to be reversed, since I abided by the rules and gave a notice of cancellation 15 days prior to the next month. Ugh.

Best Gym in Downtown Jersey City.

They have a powerlifting area where you can chalk your hands and do deadlifts, now how many boutique gyms do you know have anything like that? But that is a seperate thing the rest of the gym is machines and mirrors and all the foo-foo stuff.

This is the real deal.

This place is alright.  As long as you can put up with the dungeon smell.  The owner (Carmine, I think) tries to introduce new classes and equipment regularly.

It's wide open, but has no windows.  They play decent music in the mornings that can wake you up some and they do have staff who knows how to work out.  Even though the staff does spend most of their time chatting up the ladies or hanging out near the front desk, they are friendly when you get their attention.
