Just for kicks I looked up some of these businesses on the city's Online Tax Inquiry page

• Burger King (330 Central Ave) - owner: Parking Authority of Jersey City. Last tax payment: $351.92 on January 27, 1994
• Fashions by La Femme (336 Central Ave) - does not appear in tax inquiry
• Lucille Roberts (338 Central Ave) - does not appear in tax inquiry
• Papa John's Pizza (340 Central Ave) - does not appear in tax inquiry

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark city of Jersey City.

On Friday or Saturday 9/23-24/11, There appeared an article about a lease of land to Joseph Panepinto by the JC Parking Authority. By Monday 9/26/11, the article mysteriously disappeared. I cannot post the exact text (because it's gone) but from memory, it went like this.

In 1977, the JCPA leased a half city block on Central Ave. to developer Joseph Panepinto for $16,000 per YEAR for 25 years with a promise of no rent increase ever. This land is occupied by Burger King, Papa John's Pizza, Lucille Roberts and a few other businesses. In 2000, the lease was renewed by the JCPA at the same terms.

Like I said, the article was pulled from the website. It's a pretty sweet deal. I, and I'm sure lots of other people, have lots of questions about this deal, especially the renewal in 2000. Questions like, who, if anyone, is paying taxes on the land? how much monthly rent is collected from those businesses?.....
