The Jersey JournalWith a park along the waterfront and clear views of the Manhattan skyline, Jersey City has been named one of the best walking towns in the nation, according to
Prevention Magazine.
The magazine looked at cities across the country to see which ones have nicely paved walking paths, and entertainment that’s easy to find on foot.
Coming in No. 3, Jersey City was beat out by Cambridge, Mass. (No. 1) and New York City (No. 2) in the magazine’s rankings. Paterson and Newark in New Jersey were listed as No. 7 and No. 10 respectively.
Some Jersey City residents, who were enjoying the nice weather Tuesday afternoon, took the ranking “with a grain of salt.”
“This area is gorgeous,” said Stacy Leiman, who was out for a jog with her boyfriend, Derek Cansen. “I would walk around this waterfront for hours. But as soon as you leave here, some places get a little shady.” She said she was surprised to hear that Jersey City was ranked so high.
Jordan Spurloch, who runs after work at Liberty State Park, said the city has some many places to enjoy on foot. More people should trade their “cars for sneakers,” he suggested.
