Actually, an argument could be made that relaxing height restrictions on apartment buildings in DTJC works toward a green and sustainable lifestyle. Building up instead of sprawling over whatever green space we have left is a good thing.

Okay, forgive me for my ignorance, but what does this even mean? This is what the BCLC press release says:

Now in its fifth year, the awards program honors communities dedicated to improving their overall sustainability through environmental, economic and social solutions. Jersey City’s award nomination focused on the City’s 365 Days of Green program, Sustainable Jersey Silver Level designation, and the overall efforts of the City to create a green and sustainable lifestyle for residents, businesses, and city government.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC) and Siemens Corporation have named Jersey City a finalist for the 2012 Sustainable Community Award, Mid-Size category.

The winner in each category will be announced on April 17, 2012 at the BCLC’s 2012 National Conference – Forecast: Corporate Citizenship and America’s Future, in Atlanta, GA.

“We are pleased that our efforts to bring sustainability to our city continue to be recognized at a national level,” said Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy. “We know that the greater awareness we can raise about living a sustainable lifestyle, the greater the impact will be for our community, our country and our planet.”
