They, as well as others, do go in those bins. I have caught them in the action and now refuse to put my clothes there.
There are ladies who swarm around the bins near ShopRite and I imagine they sell what they can.

I'm gonna start dumping my sacks of used cat litter in those bins.

If these clothes are 'Gingerly Worn,' does that mean you are a Red-Head?

Does anyone ever have sidewalk sales in the area? I've seen in NY neighbors get together and have "garage" sales and call it sidewalk sales. Fun idea. It's too bad there aren't enough people doing good these days.

Sidewalk/stoop/gate sales are very popular here. As the weather warms up you'll see more of them. You can advertise them here.

Thanks. What I really want to do is take these items (clean obviously) to a family shelter. As you pointed out, you never exactly know who will turn around and sell them. i'm sure everyone has a reason as to why they do the things they do. I know I can try to do that to make some extra $ but it's just easier for me to donate and give someone something to wear if they are in need. Does anyone ever have sidewalk sales in the area? The Hamilton Park Neighborhood Association has a festival in June, part of it is a flea market, I think tables are $20, and you could pair with a friend and "sell" a bunch of stuff--i.e., put ridiculously low prices on it until it goes.

Hey, did you see the Jersey Journal article about the shootings on Wayne Street?

When I do put clothes in bins, I specifically donate to the Red Cross bins. They are tough to get into. And they are often FULL. Which means that, even if folks do take some items from the bins, there is still a lot left for the charity.

Another thing about those bins. I remember hearing or reading that not all, but many bins are not associated with any charity at all. The clothes are sold for profit. If it's marked with a well known charity name, it's probably OK.

Also, I saw on the news a few weeks ago that someone suffocated in one of those clothing bins . Maybe Taco's fate is finally sealed.

Jehu, as someone who actually used to go bin-diving for cool clothing as a teen, I have to say the bins near the firehouse are quite a challenge. If "Paco and Taco" as you insensitively put it can get in there and find use for women's size 2-4 clothing, then more power to them.

You might as well just give them to Paco and Taco then.

I would think a women's shelter, or maybe a program that emphasizes transitioning from welfare to work might be a good place to look for. Or you can just put them in the Red Cross bin near the firehouse on Marin.

Darna: could someone please splain to me why a person in a gang is called a gangbanger but a gangbang has nothing to do with gang activity?

TheFang: as much as it pains me to say, jehu might be right.

One time, I hired a monkey to take notes for me in class. I would just sit back with my mind completely blank while the monkey scribbled on little pieces of paper. At the end of the week, the teacher said, "Class, I want you to write a paper using your notes." So I wrote a paper that said, "Hello! My name is Bingo! I like to climb on things! Can I have a banana? Eek, eek!"

Really. His post wasn't even helpful.

I am not sure who would best use size 2-4 women's clothing. Do the Vietnam vets have a need? Here is a list that mentions other organizations:

Good luck.

Hi. I have three bags full of gingerly worn women and men clothing. Size 2-4 in women. I have no idea where I can drop these items off - no car and bags are heavy. Any thoughts? I was hoping I could take them to a family shelter of some kind but again, no car.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

I use Vietnam Vets of America.  They come pick it up and will leave a receipt.

I noticed the bums on Newark ave the other day going through a bag of clothes that looked donate. Wonder if they are hitting up the clothing bins again?

There are clothing donation bins in the parking lot near Bed Bath and Beyond, and also by the McNair HS parking lot on Sixth near Monmouth. Maybe you can break them up into smaller, easier-to-carry bundles, or else find a stray shopping cart. They're everywhere.
