Academy Award nominations for BEST ACTRESS (Annette Bening), BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR (Mark Ruffalo), BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY and BEST PICTURE!

"Witty, urbane and thoroughly entertaining, "The Kids Are All Right" is an ode to the virtues of family, in this case a surprisingly conventional one even with its two moms, two kids and one sperm donor."
- Los Angeles Times

"Just about everyone who has been a parent, child or partner will find resonance in its bittersweet depiction of the joys and trials of lifelong intimacy."

Chillfest, the mostly gay and lesbian film series of Jersey City, returns in 2011 this Sunday with a screening of Newfest award-winner CHILDREN OF GOD.

Virulent homophobia shadows a young bi-racial couple in the sunny Caribbean. Bahamian and first-time director Kareem Mortimer states “This is a very important film for my country, the Caribbean region and the wider world."

CHILDREN OF GOD follows the trajectory of three characters:  Lena (Margaret Kemp), a conservative wife of a secretly gay evangelical preacher; Romeo (Stephen Tyrone Williams), a young black man who must deal with hiding his sexuality from his family; and Jonny (Johnny Ferro), a white Bahamian art school student who is figuring out his own identity.

- 2010 Miami International Film Festival

Children of God has “cinematic beauty, solid writing and stand-out acting.”
—Clay Cane, BET.com

“This gorgeously lensed debut finds moments of grace.”

Chillfest, the mostly gay and lesbian film series of Jersey City, is proud to present EYES WIDE OPEN.

Forbidden desire in Jerusalem's Orthodox community is the subject of EYES WIDE OPEN ("Einaym Pkuhot") which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. When Aaron Fleishman (Zohar Shtrauss), a married father of four hires young Yeshiva student Ezri (Ran Danker) to work in his family's butcher shop, his observant world ...is turned upside down.

“It moves slowly and patiently through the ordeal of a single soul, illuminating in the process a cosmos of intense and hidden feeling…the three principal actors are remarkably adept.”
—A.O. Scott, The New York Times

“A quietly effective new Israeli film…fresh and involving. The ultra-Orthodox world both men live in is rendered in convincing detail.”—Kenneth Turan, The Los Angeles Times

“GO! A cut above.”—Vadim Rizov, LA Weekly
“Haunting, languorously paced tale of a doomed Orthodox Jewish gay couple.”
—Critic's Pick, New York Magazine

Chillfest, the mostly gay and lesbian film series of Jersey City, launches its 6th season on Sunday, October 10th with "Stonewall Uprising," an outstanding, emotionally and visually rich documentary about the spontaneous 1969 Stonewall Inn riots that gave birth to and fueled the gay-rights movement

In astounding detail, "Stonewall Uprising" is the most thorough documentary exploration of the three days of unrest beginning June 28..., 1969, when patrons of the Stonewall Inn, a then-seedy Mafia-operated gay bar in Greenwich Village, turned on the police after a routine raid.

Lucian Truscott IV, a journalist for The Village Voice whose offices were nearby recalls this was “the time that gay people stood up and said no. And once that happened, the whole house of cards that was the system of oppression of gay people started to crumble.” Directed by Kate Davis and David Heilbroner.

WHAT: "STONEWALL UPRISING" directed by Kate Davis ("Southern Comfort") and David Heilbroner.

WHEN: Sunday, October 10th, 4:20PM (doors open 4:00PM). Arrive early for drinks, food, socializing, and best seats. Full bar and dinner menu available.

SHELTER is a fresh and moving surfer film that comes to Jersey City just in time for summer. But much more than just hot guys living the beach culture of the California, SHELTER is also a gritty and intensely romantic film that offers some of the best writing, directing and acting of any gay-themed film of the last five years.

Forced to give up his dreams of art school, Zach (Trevor Wright) spends his days working a dead-end job and helping his needy sister care for her son Cody (Tina Rowe and Jackson Wurth). In his free time he surfs, draws and hangs out with his best friend, Gabe (Ross Thomas), who lives on the wealthy side of town. When Gabe's older brother, Shaun (Brad Rowe), returns home, he is drawn to Zach's selflessness and talent. Zach falls in love with Shaun while struggling to reconcile his own desires with the needs of his family. Written and directed by Jonah Markowitz.

A girl meets girl story of love, life and spices!

Three years after Indo-Scottish Nina Shah (Shelley Conn) ditched fiance Sanjay (Raji James), she returns to Glasgow for her father's funeral. Dad's curry palace may fall to rivals unless Nina excels in an Iron Chef-type competition. Nina and fellow chef Lisa (Laura Fraser) soon discover they have more in common than a knack for cooking.

Forbidden loves abound, right down to Nina's little sister's passion for Scottish dance. Musical numbers, courtesy of Nina's Bollywood-obsessed drag queen friend Bobbi (Ronny Jhutti), add to the whimsical ambiance of this romantic comedy.
